James B. McConville

Biography

Jim has a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia, and a Master’s Degree in Language Education from the University of Georgia where he studied German and Russian.

Jim has had numerous career achievements and held impressive positions including Aircraft Structures Engineer at Lockheed; Design Engineer of underground coal mining equipment at Lee-Norse, subsidiary of Ingersoll Rand; Design Engineer of material handling equipment at Clark Equipment Company; and Consulting Engineer at Mechanical Dynamics Inc. (MDI), acquired in 2002 by MSC Software.

Jim was also awarded the ranking of Technical Fellow at MSC Software for his contributions to Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). Jim has pioneered many of the modeling techniques used by engineers today in combining finite element analysis and multibody dynamics to solve previously insoluble problems. He was one of the first to recognize the potential of multibody dynamics in the aerospace, machinery, defense and consumer goods industries, and has guided the analytical approach to many commercial projects.

Jim’s hobbies include Rugby football and aviation history.
