Adventures in Publishing 2012

Third Annual Newsletter from SDC Publication, January 2012

One of the fun things about working at SDC is the challenge of providing textbooks that meet your course needs. Below is an outline of new developments.

Engineering Graphics

The topics covered in engineering graphics used to be fairly standard in most courses across the country, but the role of engineering graphics has changed with the introduction of CAD. We are trying to help teachers adjust their programs to these changes by providing a wide range of engineering graphics textbooks. SDC Publications (SDC) now publishes nine engineering graphics textbooks and several more that combine graphics with either AutoCAD or SolidWorks. We hope to add one or two more engineering graphics books to our list this Spring.

Interior Design

SDC’s goal is to offer more textbooks for interior design CAD and hand sketching courses. We are proud to announce that we will publish two textbooks this Spring for use in interior design courses. Interior Design Using Architecture 2012 by Daniel Stine introduces Revit Architecture with a focus on interior space planning. Exploring Perspective Hand Drawing by Stephanie Sipp is intended for use in an interior design introductory level hand sketching course. The textbook includes print and video instruction and sketching worksheets.

Autodesk Inventor

On January 13, 2012 SDC published Learning Autodesk Inventor 2012. This textbook represents an exciting breakthrough in the unification of the design/build process using CAD and robots. By making an inexpensive robot kit (retail price $18.00) the central project for Learning Autodesk Inventor, we give students an experience in designing parts with CAD and the assembly of a robot. Teachers can adopt this textbook bundled with a robot kit at a net price of $57.00. There is no cost to the school. Complete details are available on our web site.

Autodesk Revit

SDC now offers a complete range of Revit textbooks for all of your course needs. We currently publish ten Autodesk Revit textbooks with books dedicated to Revit Architecture, Revit BIM, Revit MEP, and Revit Structure.

In February we will publish our first Revit book for interior design: Interior Design Using Revit Architecture 2012 by Daniel Stine. The book introduces Revit Architecture within the context of interior space planning.

PTC’s Creo 1.0

PTC has launched its new software release Creo 1.0. The Creo 1.0 series replaces Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0. SDC has textbooks available for Creo 1 Parametric (previous version: Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0) and Creo 1.0 Simulate (previous version: Pro/ENGINEER Mechanica).

SolidWorks

Our newest SolidWorks textbook is called Learning SolidWorks 2012. This book is now available. This textbook represents a breakthrough in the design/build process using CAD and robots. By making an inexpensive robot kit (retail price $18.00) the central project for Learning SolidWorks, we give students an experience in part design with CAD and the assembly of a robot. Teachers can adopt this textbook bundled with a robot kit at a net price of $56.00. There is not cost to the school.

Trade shows and Conferences

SDC will be showing our textbooks and meeting with teachers at the following events this year:

Interior Designers’ Educators Conference, March 20th , Baltimore, Maryland
ASEE Annual Conference, June 24th-26th, San Antonio, Texas

If you are attending one of these conferences, please stop by and say hello.

Update policy for CAD and FEA Textbooks

Nearly all of our CAD and FEA textbooks are updated by each release of the software. This information will be posted on our web site as soon as practical. If you do not see a new version listed, please contact us at (913) 262-2664 to get the latest information.

We enjoy publishing textbooks. Your interest in our books has made the journey all the much better. Thank you for your support.
